Boston Limited expand partnership to deliver highly efficient CFD computing

Posted on 27 August, 2018

When you match one of the largest European Supermicro® distributors with a highly specialised team of Formula 1 CFD and aerodynamics experts, you can expect industry leading results.

Boston Limited (Boston) has created a CFD Solutions Team, specialising in High Performance Compute (HPC) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to offer fully tuned, highly efficient solutions, based on a range of compute architectures and software environments.

With major investment in two new 512 Core Clusters at the Boston Labs facility, the team has been performing benchmarking for various size models, building up a library of impressive results and gaining an in-depth understanding of the nuances in the differing architectures, as well as price/performance analysis.

Technavio’s recent market research report, predicts the global CFD market in the automotive industry to grow at a CAGR of almost 10% by 2021. Currently, automotive manufacturers are under pressure to minimise the product development lifecycle, and as a result have been relying on CFD and computer-aided engineering (CAE) simulations to facilitate this. New car designs are released constantly, and to keep up with the demand for a reduced lead time, engineers need to rely more on simulation and less on physical testing to take their designs across the line.

Boston are now able to offer customers the ability to run simulations on its state of the art clusters, backed by a team of experts. The CFD Solutions Team can aid in tuning meshing and solver performance through, for example: process and memory bindings, to deliver staggering results and give a high level of confidence in the true potential of a new solution. Boston’s solution includes integrated, industry leading software such as ANSYS, OpenFOAMÒ, Pam-Crash and STAR-CCM+ (among others), and is specifically designed to improve development efficiency.

This CFD specific cluster expansion, affirms Boston’s investment in providing its customers with cutting edge technology and highly specialised resource to ensure the most efficient solutions are provided.

Manoj Nayee, Managing Director, commented: “Expanding our partnership with CFD specialists is a further step forward in supporting our domain specific customers. Our primary focus is delivering world class service and highly efficient, flexible solutions that enable the customers growth. Having CFD experts on board from the outset, serves to further expand and develop our knowledge base in this highly specialised field.”
