Boston has launched a new series of solutions based on LSI's Syncro CS controller cards combined with the latest storage technology from Microsoft, Supermicro and sTec. The series is available in four flavours; the Boston Igloo Syncro Series, Fenway Hyper-V Syncro Series, Fenway SQL Syncro Series, and the Fenway IIS Syncro Series.
Scott Johnson, Windows Storage Server Senior Program Manager at Microsoft, has recently published a blog post on the Windows Storage Server Technect blog looking at the Boston Igloo Syncro Series and discussing its ability to deliver high availability without requiring the usual investment in high-priced storage. Scott describes the Boston Igloo Syncro Series as "an innovative approach to cost-effective high availability," and sums up by stating, "with its impressive performance, huge capacity, and out-of-the-box clustering, the Boston Igloo Syncro Series is capable of supporting the most demanding workloads." It seems safe to say that Scott is impressed!
At the heart of the Boston Igloo Syncro Series are two RAID-enabled Syncro SC controller cards from LSI, offering the foundation for a redundant server failover cluster with a JBOD for shared storage at the back end. Advanced enterprise storage features are available courtesy of Windows Storage Server 2012, bringing technologies such as deduplication, compression, and snapshots as standard. A Supermicro dual expander SAS disk shelf acts as the shared back end data storage, eliminating the need for an extremely costly shared storage SAN implementation.
