Solarflare heading to Earth

Posted on 08 March, 2012

Doomsayers might be predicting the disruption of air travel over the next couple of days as a massive solar flare is heading towards the Earth this morning. According to the British Met Office, the storm, which is expected to occur every 11 years or so, will release a 'massive amount of solar particles heading towards Earth'.

However, here at Boston we're not too worried. That's because our servers are now available with ultra low latency Solarflare 10GbE network interface cards.

These Solarflare cards and their unique software, OpenOnload, accelerate network traffic by bypassing the operating system kernel and TCP/IP stack. The Solarflare cards own processor also offloads network traffic from the server's own CPUs, freeing them up for customer utilisation.
