Boston Fuels Aveillant's Holographic Radar Using NVIDIA & Supermicro Technology

Posted on 14 January, 2014

Read all about our latest work with Aveillant, a vibrant UK company that's innovating radar technology, in the recently launched press release - announcing their successful live demonstration of Holographic Radar™ at Glasgow Prestwick Airport.

Aveillant's Holographic Radar™ builds 3D trajectories of moving objects in its field of view, making it capable of intelligently differentiating between objects such as wind farms and aircraft. The movement of a wind turbine's blade causes problems for air traffic control systems using existing radar technology, as the same differentiation between moving objects cannot be made.

The amount of data processing required to achieve the differentiation of moving objects would have previously required a phenomenal number of supercomputers, but Boston was able to leverage its HPC expertise and relationships with NVIDIA and Supermicro to deliver a system capable of responding to Aveillant's requirements. Boston successfully delivered a system that continuously processes data from the Holographic Radar™ sensors, feeding detailed information on the positioning of moving objects back to air traffic controllers in real time.

This innovation successfully maintains the safety of pilots and the public when aircrafts pass over wind farms, and also helps the wind energy industry to meet growth targets by expanding into areas previously unavailable due to the limitations of existing radar technology.

We're extremely excited to be part of the delivery of another innovative project that looks set to be a technology success story. With potential applications for many other industries, we look forward to working closely with Aveillant well into the future!
