Boston Igloo 2U-60T-Stor

The Boston Igloo 2U-60T-Stor is a high capacity unified file and block storage system that provides both Network Attached Storage (NAS) and iSCSI, Storage Area Network (SAN) functionality with an added level of SSD I/O acceleration.  

Utilising a new chassis design from our close partner Supermicro, this innovative solution improves on the storage density of traditional 2U platforms, typically accommodating just 12 x 3.5” hot plug bays  - the Boston Igloo 2U-60T-Stor delivers an additional 4 x hot pluggable bays are located in the middle of the enclosure to increase the drive count to an extra dense 16.

A section of the server lid can be removed to gain access to these additional bays, which can be hot plugged in and out whilst the system is running by sliding the server out of the rack on an included cable management arm and rail.

As standard, the system includes 13 x 6TB Enterprise Class SAS HDD's which are complimented by two Samsung enterprise class 240GB S-ATA SSD's to provide a hybrid storage pool. The result is storage density and the high performance IO requirements for demanding applications without breaking the bank.

Additionally, leveraging Open-E DSS V7 the Boston Igloo 2U-60T-Stor provides superior performance, security, and scalability at a fraction of the cost of alternative storage offerings. Advanced features of Open-E DSS V7 include Data and Volume Replication, Volume Snapshot, Automatic Failover for iSCSI Volumes, WORM and NDMP.

The versatility of the Open-E DSS V7 solution also allows the system to combine NAS systems with iSCSI SAN systems, and provides built-in virus protection, while enabling the connection of multiple Network Interface Controllers, including Gigabit Ethernet & 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

Configured as a RAID 50 with a hot spare, the default storage configuration delivers 60TB of useable capacity for your shared storage deployment, meaning the Boston Igloo 2U-60T-Stor provides the perfect platform for a high density storage solution whilst maintaining a compact 2U size and vast expandability. With a built in 1000W high efficiency redundant power supply, 12Gb/s SAS Expander with Enclosure Management, Adjustable Air Shroud, 4 x 80mm hot swappable cooling fans and 7x low-profile expansion slots, the Boston Igloo 2U-60T-Stor remains the perfect solution for storage and features.

The Boston Igloo 2U-60T-Stor is pre-installed with MegaRAID® CacheCade Pro 2.0 software. This offers a new option to solving your storage system challenges, allowing SSDs to act as a dedicated pool of high-performance cache between the hard disk drive (HDD) and select 12Gb/s MegaRAID controller cards. By using SSDs as a dedicated pool of cache to deliver hot data, this software solution lowers your total cost of ownership (TCO) by helping to avoid the cost of IT cycles for application tuning or sourcing more CPU, memory or enterprise HDDs.
