MWC18 Round-up : Roamer MU-VR

Posted on 07 March, 2018

Another spectacular Mobile World Congress in Barcelona!

With mobile giants Samsung, Sony and Nokia unveiling their 2018 flagship devices, HTC took an alternate approach by demonstrating the endless possibilities of Virtual Reality through Vive.

The dedicated VR area featured innovative concept simulations from the VW Group and Simple Health, but it was the Boston Roamer MU-VR (Multi-User Virtual Reality) solution which had attendees queuing to demo, and was heralded by UK Press as being one of the Top 5 VR Demos of the MWC event. It was also an opportunity for the general public to test out a pre-released HTC Vive wireless headset which worked seamlessly with the Roamer MU-VR rig.

Delivered in an easy-to-ship server rack, the #BostonMUVR uses enterprise hardware and virtualisation technology to overcome the barriers of an outmoded conventional VR set-up. VMWare ESX enables each user to share a single server but utilises a dedicated NVIDIA® Quadro® P6000 GPU to deliver impressive graphics and gameplay.

We partnered with Vive and Vertigo Games for Mobile World Congress to display the Zombie shooting game, Arizona Sunshine. In teams of 4, players worked together to stop Zombies overrunning their base in a mixed reality world.

Just like Arizona Sunshine on VR, #MWC18 did not disappoint attendees:

“It was the biggest show I've ever attended filled with a mixture of household names, long-running SMBs and start-ups. It provided a good chance to integrate and develop new partnerships. The MU-VR demo really stole the show, there was no jitter or lag so it meant that users were fully immersed in the VR. It’s the first time I have used VR simultaneously with others so that just added to the fun of it – outside of gaming, applications of VR are endless.” - First-time attendee, Parminder.

The Boston Roamer MU-VR is now available to demo – find out more information here -- https://www.boston.co.uk/muvr
